2024 Work
January turned out to be an whirlwind of activity! The opening of the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Art Show and Sale was successful, and I finished a commission piece: a 5 foot long saw blade using the owner's photographs as reference. That was a huge challenge. Completed the month with the 3 foot by 4 foot piece of red tulips that I did for myself to hang in my new house. February brought another chance to paint at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, VA. See my attempt at Henri Matisse's "Apples on a Table"--this was a challenge because I used a limited palette (red, blue, yellow) and couldn't get the colors just right. Once in the studio, I adjusted the background in particular to pay honor to the original. This piece, along with two others, will be in the Arts Center@319's (Smithfield) "Fantastic Fun Fakes" exhibit in October.
The summer's trip to France was exciting as ever! A few new plein air pieces, including my favorite time in the lavender field, brings back great memories.
Work hanging in new locations, including the Beach Gallery in Virginia Beach, Taste Unlimited at Greenbrier, and the Smithfield Center.
